Cox Communications and Security Broadband Deliver First Broadband Enabled Professionally Monitored Home Security System that Allows Customers to See and Talk to Family in the Home Via the Internet
LAS VEGAS (March 11, 2002) - Security Broadband Corp., a provider of premium home security systems with lifestyle features, today announced the immediate availability of its new home security product, the SafeVillage™ system, for Cox Communications customers in the Las Vegas area.
The SafeVillage system is the first residential professionally monitored security offering enhanced with video and audio that utilizes the customer's cable modem and allows customers to remotely view their homes and communicate with family via the Internet. For example, SafeVillage customers can see and talk to their children when they arrive home from school, monitor the people who come to the front door or verify the well-being of pets in the home – all through a secure, password-protected Web site.
The UL-listed central monitoring station staff is dedicated to serving SafeVillage customers 24 hours a day. When an alarm is triggered, monitoring staff can use the cameras and intercom stations to see and hear inside the home, and then contact the authorities as necessary. To protect the customer’s privacy, the only time live audio and video are sent from a customer’s home to the central monitoring station is during an alarm event.
“As the broadband market leader in Las Vegas, Cox places particular importance on introducing innovative products to our customers. The SafeVillage system is delivered over our existing broadband infrastructure to provide a better residential security system,” said Mark Lipford, vice president and general manager for Cox Communications in Las Vegas. “With a higher-than-average false alarm rate, our Las Vegas customers will benefit from a greater peace of mind about their homes by utilizing SafeVillage’s remote home viewing capabilities and robust security features.”
With 94 to 98 percent of home alarm incidents reported false1, one of the most compelling features of the SafeVillage system is that it can provide more dynamic information than a traditional security system. Using the system’s audio and video capabilities, central monitoring station representatives can provide law enforcement and public safety officials with more specific, timely information about an alarm event in progress.
“We are pleased to provide Cox customers in So. Nevada with unsurpassed home security capabilities through the SafeVillage system,” said Kirk MacDowell, general manager for Security Broadband Broadband Nevada Operations, Inc. “With the introduction of our enhanced security system, we are delivering upon our promise of providing affordable, world-class protection to the people of the Las Vegas Valley.”
The standard package will be offered for a limited time at an installation fee of $499* with a one-year monitoring contract and a $39.95* monitoring fee per month (*plus applicable taxes and fees). The standard in-home security package includes:
- An indoor security camera with a built-in motion detector
- Intercom stations
- Window/door sensors
- A keypad and a security gateway
Additional cameras (indoor and outdoor), intercoms, windows and door sensors, motion and glass break detectors, keypads, key chain remotes, and smoke detectors are available to create a package that meets the needs and specifications of the homeowner.
Taking advantage of the convenience and control afforded by the system, customers can sign into the SafeVillage Web site using a confidential password to arm and disarm their systems, view alarm history and remotely view their homes and speak to their families.
Service agreements for SafeVillage customers include a 30-day money back guarantee for installation charges. Current home security owners who upgrade to the SafeVillage system may be able to use some of their existing security components.
Homeowners interested in the service can visit www.safevillage.com to view a video demonstration of the system and sign up for a free in-home audit, or call the Las Vegas office at 702-492-2222 for more information.
