The television is a center piece of most patient's daily lives. Healthium is designed to fit into the patient's natural routine so that it's convenient and results in improved compliance with healthcare protocol. At each patient site, the Healthium system consists of a Healthium Settop and a high-speed modem. Peripheral equipment options connected to Settop includes automatic upload monitoring devices and broadband video phone. The Settop connects the patient's remote control interface and television to the Internet (via TCP/IP). A typical setup in home looks like following diagram:
The Video Conferencing unit consists of a camera and CODEC that permits television set based video conferencing at speeds as low as 128kbits/sec, as well as a cordless telephone handset to provide video speed-dialing and audio. The system utilizes the H.323 video communications standard. Providers and caregivers can all interact with the Healthium system via their own PC's web browser.
